Vaccine Preventable and Modifiable Disease (VPMD) Series
Intro to the series
In this time of changing policies and continued concerns regarding vaccinations, it serves as an opportune time to review the different diseases caused by organisms covered by available vaccinations in the United States. Vaccinations available in different countries varies largely due to burden of disease and cost. The focus of this series will be vaccinations that have been a part of the US childhood vaccination series in the most recent years.
My goal for this series is to bring to the forefront of everyone’s mind the vaccine preventable/modifiable diseases (VPMD) in order to recognize its presentation, potential complications and impact on public health.
It is hard to predict the exact impact the CDC’s recent change in vaccination recommendations will have on our population as a whole, but informing ourselves on the diseases impacted by these vaccinations will provide awareness of what can happen.
Note: All vaccines are immunizations but not all immunizations are vaccines, it is a matter of how they impart immunity. This series will cover all immunizations on the childhood schedule but the word vaccine will likely garner more attention from SEO, hence my use in this article.:)
